Something is wrong with this show

The funny thing about EW’s article on Alicia and Kalinda friendship is that it was posted quickly after the Buzzfeed one . And despite their efforts to make that thing (their lack of interaction) reasonable and perfectly right It makes me think that really something happened between Archie Panjabi and Julianna Margulies. And sincerely, I don’t care whatever happened, but whatever happened shouldn’t have affected the show. Do you remember when ALL the cast members were EQUALLY promoted and got their chance to shine? I don’t. And face this: Archie Panjabi and Matt Czuchry are now the fifth wheel of the cast. And I don’t understand why they’re stil part of a show who keep treating them like that. I don’t know what happened but something went wrong and the show never recovered from it.

Hmm … I’m not sure. I both agree and disagree. I think Matt actually had a lot to do this season, especially in the latter half of the season (and especially especially during the finale). I love how Cary stood up for FA/to Alicia because he felt like he was being ignored. He will definitely gain considerably more screentime next season, too, since he’ll be mostly running the firm since Alicia will probably be running for SA.

Archie is a completely different story though. She pretty much floated around until episode 15. Terribly underused this season. Very confused as to why that is so since she’s such a fan favourite.

IMO right now it’s like there are “first class” cast members and then there are Matt and Archie.I think that Matt’s status is just “apparently” better than the Archie’s one. But if I consider a couple of things I find out that things weren’t so good for him too. Through 5 seasons Matt never got his big storyline. He’s the only cast member who never got an Emmy nom. Even if Archie’s status righ now sucks she got her big moments at least. Florrick/Agos should have been Matt Czuchry big moment, but even this time writers basically used him mostly to give Alicia, Will and Diane their seasonal big storylines and to give JM, CB and JC their seasonal Emmy storyarc. And In the year of Cary Matt Czuchry got really poor pubblicity and poor media attention. Maybe we saw more of him. But things really didn’t change in terms of quality and consistence. Even with his own firm writers weren’t able to give him a strong storyline. And that’s absurd. And completely UNFAIR. There’s a lot of unfairness when I think about how that show handle some things.

IMO that season Cary did have a lot to do but nothing really interesting to do besides floathing around Alicia and HER new firm all the time without a real storyarc who was mostly about him. No comment about what they wrote for Kalinda and Cary which was an insult to their fans, to the characters and the actors. And the finale was just the last strawl and the prelude of a season where, well, maybe he’ll get a lot of screentime but I suppose he’ll spend all that screentime being treated like crap by Diane, Alicia and Kalinda and everyone else in that show. So, well, picture me really not interested in season 6.

I can see where you’re coming from but with regards to Matt, I think that is exactly the point of his storyarc for next season. He’s being largely overshadowed by Alicia and her name (and has been since the first season!) but it’s not like the writers aren’t addressing this issue. As a matter of fact, it was very much brought up in the finale. Cary had said something about how he quit LG because he felt like he was being treated like a doormat, and how he wanted to do something for himself. That’s why he was very adamant about not wanting to merge with LG&C because he knew he was going to be removed from the letterhead yet again. That moment really solidified his character for me - it really showed how he was so frustrated by being ignored just because he hasn’t got an established name like Alicia and co., and how finally, finally, he wasn’t going to let it pass anymore. So yes, he might be treated by crap again by Diane next season, but I think it will most likely be addressed since the power dynamics have changed. That’s why if it happens, I am very much looking forward to it.

Besides, I think the show just didn’t have time yet to fully explore the new firm and storylines about it, mostly because they had to deal with Josh’s departure first. They had to make the most of what time they had left with Josh, and then when he died, they decided to capitalise on his departure by focusing on how it affected those who were closest to him (Alicia & Diane, though Kalinda got a few great scenes out of it too).

Absolutely agree with you on Kalinda/Cary though. I absolutely hate what they’ve done to them as a couple. On the brightside, this does open up more potential storylines between the two of them for season 6.

After 5 years they weren’t able to find time to write something good for Matt Czuchry and his character. I wish Buzzfeed would write something about it and explain me why with 22 episodes for season writers are not able to write something worthy for Matt Czuchry and they just keep using him like a punching bag . And why every season I’ve to read articles about him being underused and I’ve to hope that next season will be better. Especially because every season things don’t improve anyway. Come on he got his own firm and he has not had ONE single case of his own all season. It’s because JC’s departure. It’s because they need to introduce the new male energy.  It’s because the new BIG guest star or everything else they think it’s worthier than giving finally a 5 ys cast member his damn Emmy storyarc. I think he’s the last thing they think about everytime they write about a new season. “Oh, yeah, and then there’s Cary.”

I think next season the power dynamic will change but on Cary’s disfavor and I think the focus will be more on Diane (Kalinda has a way with Cary. We’ve exploited this before) and Alicia (I’m tired) than on Cary. I’m almost 100% sure that Alicia and Diane will team against him to do whatever they want with the firm. Both of them seem to have really little respect for Cary.

Instead the kind of storyline wich I’d like to see for Cary would be to have him fighting his fight and finally winning and a big case which would allow him to show how good he’s even without a damn fucking name. Because it never happened before. And because it would make justice for 5 years of unfairness. But I think that whatever they’ve planned for Cary it will go lost in translation while they’ll be too busy writing about something or someone else. Because that’s exactly what happened in the last 3 years.
